Bury a pair of cotton underwear. Dig them up two months later. The more the microbes have eaten, the healthier the soil.
We turned that test into an instrument. A printed PHBV-carbon strip — PHBV is a biodegradable bioplastic produced by soil bacteria — goes into a working field. As microbes consume it, its electrical resistance rises in proportion to their activity, turning a one-time visual check into a continuous, quantitative signal..
Sensor resistance changes based on microbial activity
Each sensor node pairs that biological reading with CO₂, soil and air temperature, moisture, and humidity. Those same conditions drive the biology and affect the sensor, so telling them apart is the hard part — and it's what our AI layer is built to do.
